Join us in bringing live theatre to Dumbarton

Founded in 1945, Dumbarton People’s Theatre are an amateur dramatic society that have been providing entertainment with a local focus for eighty years and counting.

We produce four full-length productions a year, staged in the Denny Civic Theatre, which range from farce to drama, and of course our ever popular Christmas pantomime. Alongside these, we also provide shorter one-act productions, workshops, club nights and more for existing members. We pride ourselves on making theatre accessible and interesting for audience, cast and crew alike.

Who we are

Dumbarton People’s Theatre was founded 80 years ago as the Second World War ended. By 1960 we were rehearsing and putting on performances in the old Scout Hall next to Dumbarton East Railway Station. With the opening of the Denny Civic Theatre in 1976, the club premises in Glasgow Road became our main rehearsing and workshop space.

In 1980 we embarked on a fundraising campaign to replace the old ‘Tin Hall’ with the building now on the site. It encompasses a rehearsal studio, a set building workshop and a large storage space for costumes and props.

We are always keen to welcome new members and offer opportunities in acting development, as well as sound, lighting design, props, set building and costume.
